Wada Kolam Rice

Farmers in the Wada region have been growing this rice for generations, relying on traditional organic methods that avoid chemical fertilizers and pesticides. These practices not only preserve the natural taste and nutritional value of the rice but also promote sustainable farming. The region's unique soil and climatic conditions contribute significantly to the rice’s distinct quality and aroma, which cannot be easily replicated elsewhere.

Wada Kolam rice holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, which certifies its origin and ensures that only rice grown in the designated region can be sold under the Wada Kolam name. This status helps protect local farmers from copyright products and encourages the preservation of regional agricultural heritage. The GI tag also boosts the rice’s market value, providing better economic returns for the cultivators.
